Abstract

Commentaries on Haberlandt's interpretation of the Basque succession system. Haberlandt says that the Basque society is a matriarchy because the first-born daughters gave a dowry to their brothers and became owners of the house. This is not so, the persons were simply known by the name of the house and on inheriting, it did not matter if they were women or men
