Abstract

An analysis of the different criteria and opinions of religious politics developed during the First Republic bienium by local corporations of Gipuzkoa -the most of it from the republican-socialits point of view-, in the conflictive context because of the continuos collision between the revisionist attitude of the left-wing and the deep religious feeling of the majority sector of basque society. In spite of all this, when the religious politics mentioned before came into practical reality, it was done with prudence and moderation, and this attitude contributed not to overcoming the religious problems of the basque country, but it helpt to soften them
