The polemic maintained by Santos Angel de Ochandátegui with various Navarran architects is meaningful in that it outlines the confrontation between two totally opposite conceptions of understanding art: Neo-classicism, with its structural clarity and its ornamental purityand Rococo, which had strongly been implanted in our land and became so difficult to uproot.
