Both the father and the son were to become professors of Law and discoverers and publishers of classical works. We owe the father a much-used edition of the Corpus Iuris Civilis, and we owe the son the reconstruction and edition of the Codex Theodosianus, which is still an instrument of work for specialists. They also participated in administrative activities in positions of responsibility, and also dedicated their lives to local history and political critique, following the style of other humanists. They set the bases for future scientific reflection.
