Abstract

The unresolved debate surrounding the different manners of considering the confrontation between tradition and modernity has led us to reflecting on a specific subject that of studies on Basque music, which were initiated in the 18th century. For this reason, taking into account the determining socio-political, aesthetic and anthropological factors which have intervened in this process, we have tried to draw up a historical review of the main musicological proposals to have been introduced, almost to the present-day, with reference to a musical repertory which has been identified as Basque
