Abstract

Agustín Basterretxea, born in Lequeitio (Vizcaya) in 1700, as stated on the herewith papers, and deceased most likely in 1761, composed the poem under the tittle fo "Passioa", in Basque. Its words deserved popular approval and they have been sung following multiple variants, both in Vizcaya and Guipuzcoa and Navarra. Twenty melodies are studied, making four different groups: those related to Guernica, Motrico (Guipuzcoa), other melodies and those related to verse nº 18
