Organerías (II). Simón de Artozqui, primer organista de Hernani

Abstract

Simón de Artozqui, born in Aoiz (Navarra), was the first organist of the Parishchurch of Hernani (from 1653 until 1670). He was succeeded by Alonso de Amitesarobe, native of Hernani, whose election rose a serious lawsuit. To slove it, the arbitration, of three persons was appealed, appointed by the civil and ecclesiastical authorities. In the resolution, it is settled the original system of organists election: the Vicar, the Mayor and the Churchwarden, each writes on papers, the name of their candidates one of the paper is extracted and the name written on it, will be elected.
