Abstract

The teaching of traditional dances in the Basque exile community is converted into the transmission of an element of identity that is easily learnt and that has visible results. The purpose of this paper, based on field work, is to show the educational strategies followed in dance teaching within the Basque nationalist exile community and, more concretely, in the Basque Centre in Caracas, where dance classes have been imparted as from its foundation. The practical majority of its members have, at one time or another, belonged to one its dance groups.
