Abstract

Piarres Lafitte was one of the main promoters of the Basquism in Iparralde. Taking culture as the means for this, he encouraged among their pupils and companions the knowledge of the Basque language, theatre, music, geography and history. It was also concerned with the social and economic problems of the inhabitants of the area, using his condition as a writer to advice the farmers. While centring his efforts in such activities, he founded, together with his companions the Euskalzaleak group, which, even though it did not become a political group, it did manage to work as a Basque cultural group in the Ipar Euskal Herria in the nineteen thirties.
