Abstract

The third volume of the medieval sources of the Municipal Archives of Oñati transcribes three documents referred to the lawsuits maintained by the council of Oñati with the monastery of Santa María de Barria, in Álava. The cause of the litigation was the pretence by the nuns from Barria that their cattle should graze freely in the pastures the council of Oñati had in the mountains of Urbia and Olza. The documentation transcribed reflects two proof notebooks, drafted between 1496 and 1503, that are preserved incomplete, and an executorship letter dated in 1504 that stated the sentence handed down on the case, in the review phase, in favour of the monastery. The conflict did not end there since the municipal archives include several files more of proofs dated up to 1534, the date in which a compromise was reached between both parties.
