Abstract

This paper provides a brief overview of some key issues concerning the current state of journals publishing in the humanities, namely: online publication of scholarly journals, the collaborative work undertaken jointly by professional academic publishers, learned societies, and journal editors. It also looks at the current challenges, and perhaps threats, to humanities journals, posed by journal ranking, open access, and free institutional repositories of scholarly content.
