The Basque people was a source of inspiration for romantic writers, particularly for Victor Hugo. During three weeks he travelled through three Basque provinces (Labourd, Gipuzkoa and Navarre). His hurried notes about the "Fueros", the firs Carlist War and Zumalacarregui are worth mentioning
