Abstract

Anybody born in Bilbao knows the nickname with which, from long ago, their town is known: the "bocho". This is that the nomination that has been considerably successful with the passage of time and, although it seems not to be used as much by members of new generations, still enjoys a considerable expansion amongst people coming from Bilbao. The origin and meaning of this term is discussed in this communication.
