Abstract

This is a study of the production of love stories published during the civil war with a Basque setting. An analysis is made of Madrina de guerra [Godmother of War] (s.a.), by Rosa de Arámburu; La enfermera de Ondárroa [Ther nurse from Ondárroa] (1938), by Jorge Villarín; and ¡Milagrosa! [Miraculous!] (s.a.), by Fernando de Ayala. The objective was to show the conjunction in such works of the love or sentimental ingredient with an ideological element of Fraco's Spain, and exposing the procedures used by these authors to swallow the Basque identity within a Spanish outlook.
