Under French influence, and even though he says in writing that he only spoke Basque, he did speak French well. He kept a close relationship, wrote letters and maintained personal contact with the Greek and Hebrew literature professor in the Faculty of Letters in Tolouse. It is through that correspondence that we can observe his interest for books by Larramendi, Astarloa, Juan Bautista de Erro and other authors. Especially noteworthy is a letter written in Biarritz to Iztueta by Antoines father on the 20th October 1827.
