Official URL: http://www.euskomedia.org/analitica/10519 AbstractThe present work approaches the phenomenon of Basque migration to some American countries -in particular to Uruguay- which was so pronounced over the second third of the 19th century, and its social expression in the Montebideoko kantuak, a set of poems and songs, laden, with very few exceptions, with nostalgia, pessimism and frustration, that afford quite a partial and unilateral vision of this sociological phenomenon, setting aside another more agreeable side of emigration, which is represented by those who have success or at least move forward in such a difficult conjuncture.
