He provided important philological and historical material by making his abundant collection of manuscripts available to scholars. He demonstrated the importance of the regional factor in Ethiopian history, which had a similar importance for the ancient Christian kingdom of the high plains as it did for greater Ethiopia, which at the end of the XIX century became the Empire of Ménélik.
