In Ethiopia, he manages to set up two missions, which he preserves: Lazarist (Abyssinia 1839) and Capucin (Gallas 1845). In Europe, he continues hismissionary tasks through donations, intercessions and the entrusting of three Ethiopian young boys. He encourages the clergy’s scientific research (castle observatory) and the research, translations and original writings by bascological priests. He was a charitable man and a devout moralist, hostile to slavery but a conservative nonetheless. Antoine d’Abbadie represents an important Christian trend at the end of the 19th century in France.
