Abstract

Considering the long temporary lapse (three centuries) covered in the Basque Country by the so-called Gothic Art, the author considers it is justified to divide its exhibition: The First Gothic Art and the End of Medieval Art. In each of the two periods in which the history of Basque Gothic art is divided, the author covers the most notable works that have been handed down to us, both in architecture and in sculpture, painting and luxury arts, both in the field of the religious and civil and military art. The intention is to place them in context by means of references to the political, religious and cultural situation in each one of the territories. The article concludes with the artists’ exhibition and works that, although they are substantially Gothic, introduce some Renaissance features.
