All State events - military victories or treaties of peace - and the events related to royal family - births, marriages, deaths - were the object of propaganda and public celebrations in all the towns in the kingdom. Urban spaces were the stage employed to transmit official ideology - defence of absolutism and of the values of the Ancient Regime - to the popular masses by means of shows of power. What happened in the town of Vitoria during the Modern Age is but another example thereof.
