The Muslim irruption in the second decade of the 8th century was to lead two centuries later to a reconquest that would culminate with the recovery of former Vaconia dominions and newlands, with the consequent expansion of the Vascones culture in what is currently La Rioja and the north eastern end of Burgos. The 10th century saw the birth of the romance languages. The cultural mosaic of Vasconia was enriched as of the end of the 11th century with the people and languages from Franconia and Gascoigne, an element that was already known in Bayona. That multiethnic and multicultural society was completed with a significant Jewish element.
