The Future of Basque Nationalism in Iparralde

Abstract

This article examines the nature of contemporary Basque nationalism in France, and identifies the major factors likely to influence its future evolution: the ideological influences of the Spanish Basque movement; the unwillingness of the French government to negotiate with the Basque movement; and the efforts of the French Basque movement to unite in common cause and overcome the tradition of internal conflict that has unnecessarily weakened the Basque nationalist camp in France.
