Abstract

On 28th August 1215 Dominique de Guzmán, founder of the Order of the Dominicans, gave the habit of Preacher to the first Basque Dominican, Jean de Navarre, who had been born in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in the Lower Navarre. Friar Jean de Navarre appears as a man of vigorous personality, of an iron will and with aresolutely positive spirit.
