Eleanor Davis -the librarian of this county, situated in the Southwest of the State of Oregon- reports how the shepherds, who had arrived at the beginning of century, had already moved in the nineteen-forties to small towns which, until then, had been populated by Americans. Most of the newcomers were very poor people, and spoke Basque but no Spanish.They did not mix with the Americans and they have preserved their language and their culture.
