In its second part, the author concentrates on his character and genius that was decidedly influenced by the traditional Basque sense of freedom: rebellion against in justice, defence of the liberty of the Indians, and a practical religious sense. This is how his Basque origin is reflected in Zumárraga's personality as well as in his work. Zumárraga always maintained his ties to Durango, his native town.
