The symbolic power or symbolisation of the sea is so strong that it seems one cannot make any mention of it without the descriptions or allusions of the author adopting a second sense. The present work includes literary test of the type "tell me what you see in the sea and I will show you what kind of writer you are" with Basque writers that have used the sea (Txomina Agirre, Etxepare "Mirikua", Lauaxeta, Iratzeder, Mirande, Txillardegi, Gandiaga, Sarrionaindia).
