El estigma de Beraun: conflicto, espacio y alteridad

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to show how ethnic identities have their counterpart in the perception and classification of urban space and neighbourhoods. The field work was carried out in Rentería, an industrial town of the Basque Country, where the coming of migrants from other parts of Spain changed the sociodemographic, linguistic and cultural landscape of the community. These changes became 'ethnically' meaningful in the context of the building of the Basque ethnic identity during the 80's.
