The Church's mobilization of the Virgin of Fatima as a symbolof anti-Communism provoked a series of imitative visions, particularly by children, across Europe, which continued throughout the Cold War. In Spain, in a context of religious revival, the visions were often by children of families on the Left in the Civil War.
