Abstract

In the times of the Second Republic, architecture in Bilbao followed rationalist trends. However, the superficial manner in which new architectural ideas were incorporated,the organisation of urban planning around closed courtyards and municipal ordinances that regulated all this, left no option for putting into practice new urban structures or a new internal organisation in houses. Thus, the architects of Bilbao,in their own way,conceived a modern architecture that changed the surface of the city.
