Uso de los medios culturales en la Prisión de Martutene

Abstract

The research project, carried out in 1987 with the help of the Basque Studies Society-Eusko Ikaskuntza, means a contribution to the area of Sociology Of Communication inside prisons. The report quantities prison population's preferences, usage and valuation of the Mass-Media (Newspaper, RadioT.V.) available in the prison of Martutene, located in the city of San Sebastián, in the Basque Country. It equally picks up the image of books, librariesand culture and professional activities which take place at the prison throughout the year. The study also looks at the cultural motivation prisoners have. It makes use of a methodology based on observation and surveys given to the imprisoned population and also to some public officials in charge of rehabilitation. Report conclusions show an unsatisfying and passive consume of Mass-Media and point out the need of designing and developing pedagogical sylabus which will favour communication, training and culture inside prisons as possible measures of positive action for social reinstatement.
