Abstract

Oihenart is known as historian and reporter of collected sayings, however he is not well known as a poet due to the fact that his two issues of "Proverbes basques" are exhausted. The second issue consists of two parts: 537 proverbs with their translation to French, and the poems which are also translated. The poems are for the most part affectionate, although also religious and dedicated to characters of his time. The book finishes with a small vocabulary. Some of the poems are analyzed
