Abstract

The technique of "applied brocade", of Flemish origin, was quickly introduced in Castille. Until very recently in had been considered quite a rare technique in our territory, but we are proving that this is not the case. This document give a brief description of the technique, the period of use and its distribution. It also deals with other questions such as the workshops wich could have served to introduce or progragate the tecnique in Spain, the origin of the polychrome artists, etc. The analysis centres around the cases discovered in Alava, mentioning the rest of the Basque Country and Navarra.
