Abstract

A more or less complete, permanent or transient isolation is considered by some therapists, societies or people as a way of healing, as a personal accomplishment or as a method for development. At present the techniques that are used in psychiatry can be: A more or less total, prevalent social isolation, a more or less complete sensory deprivation, self-suggestion and self-perception deprivation techniques. When isolation is considered a way to self-perfection, hyper-stimulation and self-concentration techniques are used. The author also studies the prayer and contemplation techniques used by the Cretans
