Abstract

The author concludes that the Jews were present in the territories inhabited by the Basque people in Navarre from the early Middle Ages and in the rest of the territory at least from the 13th century onwards. Life together had a markedly tolerant character in Alava, Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia, although in Navarre there were some problems due to the fact that the Navarrans were opposed to the setting-up of two French dynasties, and the Jews took sides in both cases. There is a transcription of some the texts that are present the Ordinances and in the Fueros (Special Jurisdictions) with reference to Judaism
