Abstract

It had always been considered that the etymology of Azkoitia and Azpeitia originated from the situation of the villages in relation to Mount Izaraitz, considering "Aiz" means rock. However Yrízar considers that they come from "Uraz-goitia" and "Uraz-peitia" as other ancient authors say, which means that they are in the upper and lower parts of the bank of the Urola river
