Abstract

Artistic and labor personality of Eusebio Zuloaga (1808-1898), son of Armorer Blas de Zuloaga from Eibar, deserves a wide biography which is being written and published. His knowledge about different aspects of ornamental arts requires it. Some of the periods of his active life, as well as many of his works, were described in the book "The Zuloaga a dynasty of Basque artists". Eusebio Zuloaga irradiates his art through his fine-featured drawing in engraving and chiseling, in damascence work of which he was the introducer, in artistic forging, etc. He practiced curious tests and ceramics, and registered some patents. He transmitted these natural abilitics of energy and creation to his sons Pácido, who changed the process of damascene work, and Daniel, the great ceramist, whose works are admired and praised. He was the last person to hold the value title of "His Majesty's Harquebusier" since 1844. Ten years earlier, he had got the title of "Main Armorer's Lieutenant of the Royal Armony" and he practiced this work in the Royal Palace together with his father, until the latter obtained the duty of Main Armorer. In broad outlines, this is the life of Eusebio Zuloaga, whose talents converged into his grandson Ignacio, the painter, as the strength of a torrent. A good proof of his capacity and creative skills can be perceived in the following description
