Abstract

The American colonies had a great social and economic importance for the Basques. The author analyzes the effects of the loss of these colonies in the Basque Country, its reaction to this loss and the role of the Jurisdictions in the Basques' response to such events. Furthermore, he considers that these changes had a considerable influence on the origin of Carlism in the Basque Country
