It was built in 1847, following architect Mariano José de Lascurain's design and under his supervision. He was then the "Director of Roads" of the Province of Guipuzcoa. The Basilica is a small monument that fits in perfectly within the Neo-classical period because of its author, its design and the dates in which it was built. It is a small Greek cross-based within a 14 m. square area.
